POSITION
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator or designated supervisor, this position is responsible for high quality care for children from the ages of 6 weeks old to 10 years of age - staff to child ratios, child safety, and child development.
Staff support strong parent communication and building a community with children and parents.
Child Care Attendant
Essential Functions:
The lead staff will be responsible for supporting and building developmentally appropriate activities and curricula.
The lead staff will provide day-to-day guidance and leadership to Kids Club co-workers.
All Child Safety training and CPR/First Aid certification is up to date.
Create a welcoming and caring environment for all members/guests.
Greeting all members/guests by name.
Staff is required to be enthusiastic and excited for all member/guests that enter the door.
Always maintain a neat and professional appearance.
Staff need to follow designed dress code - YMCA staff shirt, pants in good condition and athletic or closed toe shoes.
Complete daily and weekly duties assigned by the Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator.
Ensure that there are always 2 staff members before we allow members/guests to enter the center.
Actively engage children in reading, art, creative play, or other age-appropriate activities.
Help members with transition to our center.
Make members/guests comfortable with leaving their children in our care.
Proactively communicate with parents about their child's day with us.
Have complete knowledge of ratios for each age group and our capacity policies.
Provide members with clear and accurate information about our policy and procedures.
Staff are required to document any incidents/accident reports and submit to the Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator.
Provide complete coverage to your assigned area of the center.
Work as a team with other Child Care Attendants to always provide complete supervision to your assigned area.
Lead by example, displaying the components of the Staff Promise and Listen First skills.
Work with the Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator by checking risk management/hazards and take proper steps to minimize a risk.
Always ensure that the Child Abuse Prevention Code of Conduct is our best practice policy.
Responsible for reporting any Building Services need for risk management/custodial services for the center.
Provide help during clean up/shut down and decorate for the holidays.
Participate in YMCA community events.
Daily placement sheets for staff and tracking sheets for members.
QUALIFICATIONS (Including requisite computer skills):
High School diploma or equivalent (although current high school students may be considered).
Experience with working with young children and or coursework in early child development.
Must have effective verbal communication skills and the ability to work well with a diverse population.
Certification in Adult/Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Red Cross All 5 praesidium training completed 30 days after hire date needs to be completed.
